best way smooth wood
Test the smoothness of the wood by rubbing a nylon stocking across the surface. if the stocking catches, the wood needs further sanding. if you are sanding a wooden surface that features wood grain traveling in multiple directions, such as in inlaid wooden items, lay a strip of tape over the edge of the area of wood you are sanding.. Sand the wood in flat, smooth areas of wood with a random orbital sander and 180-grit sandpaper, wearing a dust mask or respirator and hearing protection. the intent is not to strip the wood of all of the coatings and stains but simply to smooth out the surface and provide some "tooth," or slight scratches, to help the paint bond.. The best way to protect wood from uv damage will always be to apply colour, even a light colour, the pigments act as sunscreen and the darker the pigment the better the protection. the second product to consider is the osmo uv protection oil extra if your wood is smooth this could be the best clear product on the market for uv protection.. best way smooth wood
How to get a smooth paint finish on wood. supplies: sandpaper, multiple grits from medium to ultra fine; paint i don’t believe there is one paint that is the end-all-be-all for the best results. use what you love. i use the behr interior paint & primer in one most often and am very happy with the results.. With film finish like varnish, the finish needs to be smooth not the wood. use 2 or 3 or more grits to achieve desired smoothness i.e. start with coarse p-40, p-60 then medium p-80, p-120 and finally fine p-100, p-120 or higher like p-150, p-180; i always sand between coats. that way the finish has got more depth to it so i highly recommend it.
